Precipitation to Probability

 

Precipitation: The act of precipitating or being separated from a solution by action of a reagent.
Precipitation test: A test performed by formation of a precipitate. Precision: The region over the heart and lower part of the thorax. Precordialgia : Pain in the precoIdium.
Precursor: In biochemistry, an intermediate compound present in a living organism, from which another more active or mature substance is formed.
Predigestion: The partial artificial digestion of food before its ingestion. Prednisolone: A synthetic glucocorticoid derived from cortisol, used as an anti-inflammatory and to
treat rheumatoid, arthritis, collagen diseases, allergic conditions, neoplastic and gastrointestinal disease and blood dyscrasias.
Prednisone :. A synthetic glucocorticoid derived from cortisone, used to treat various conditions responsive to the anti-inflammatory action of glucocorticoids.

Preganglionic: Situated anterior or proximal to a ganglion.
Preganglionic neuron: The first of a series of tWo efferent neurons that transmit impulses to visceral effectors.

Pregnancy: (1) A natural state of involving great changes in the womb and the whole body. (2) The condition of having a developing embryo or fetus in the body, after union of an ovum and spermatozoon. In women, duration of pregnancy is about 266 days.
Pregnane: A crystalline saturated hydrocarbon, ~lH36, forms the steroid nucleus of various hormones. Pregnanediol: 5 ~-Pregnane-3a, 20 a-diol, a dibydroxy derivative of progesterone, found mainly in urine of pregnant women.
Pregnanetriol: A metabolite of17a­hydroxyprogesterone, occurring in smaIl amounts in body fluids and urine.
Prehormone : A biosynthetic intraglandular honnone precursor. Premature infant: An infant born before the end of the normal period of gestation.
Premedicant : A drug used for premedica~on.
Premedication : Preliminary medication, internal medication to produce narcosis prior to inhalation anaesthesia.
Premenstrual: Occurring before menstruation.
Premolar: One of the eight
permanent teeth anterior to the molars and poterior to the canine teeth. Premunition: Relative immunity ; infection immunity.
Prenatal: Existing before birth. Prepubertal: Occurring before puberty.
Prepuce (Preputium) : A covering fold of skin.

Preservative: A substance or preparation added to a product for destroying or inhibiting the multiplication of microorganisms.
Pressor: (1) Anything that increases the activity of a function. (2) Tending to increase blood pressure, as a pressor drug.
Pressure: Stress or strain. Pressure point: An area for exerting pressure to control bleeding. Pretax return: Profit before payment of income tax and sur-tax. Prevalence: The number of cases of a disease that are present in a
. population in an area.
Preventive medicine: The branch of medicine.
Preapism : Persistent erection of the penis, usually unaccompanied by sexual desire.
Price-list: A list referring to the order.
Pridromal : Symptoms that are indicative on onset of disease.
Prilocaine hydrochloride: A local anaesthetic, used to produce
. peripheral nerve block, epidural or caudal block, and infiltration and regional anaesthesia.
Primaquine phosphate: An antimalarial, especially effective.
against exoerythrocytic forms of Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum, used to treat relapsing vivax malaria.
Primary: First in order or in time of development.
Primary meristem : Meristem that gives rise to primary tissue. Primidone : An'anticonvulsant, used to treat grand mal, focal and psychomotorlepileptic seizures. Primigravida: A woman pregnant for the first time.
Primitive; Existing in a simple or early form.
Principle: (1) A substance on which certain of the properties of a drug depend. (2) A law of conduct. Prism (prisma) : A solid with a triangular or polygonal cross section. Prismatic: Shape like a prism. Prismoid : Resembling a prism.
Proaccelerin : A heat-and storage-labile material, present in plasma, but not in serum, functioning in pathways of blood coagulation.
Proactinomycin : A group of antibiotic substances, designated A, Band C, from cultures of Nacardia gardner~ which acts against gram-positive bacteria.
Proactivator : The inactive precursor form of an activator that requires a chemical change, usually by an enzyme, to become an activator.
