The Benefits Of A Weight Loss Spa
Weight loss spas are places where people can have a relaxing holiday whilst
they learn how to eat healthily and what exercise is good for them. The focus at
these spas is on the physical health and well being of the people who visit
them. As well as providing these people with an education in regarding to their
habits and changes that they need to make to their life’s in order to help
control their weight once their trip to the spa has ended. Weight loss spas are
different from weight loss programs and boot camps as they generally do not
follow trendy diets but instead set up programs which will help people to lose
weight naturally and healthily as well as helping them to keep the weight off.
One a person first visits a weight loss spa they will have a meeting first with
a weight loss counselor. This person will evaluate and decide upon the necessary
measures that will need to be taken in order for the visitor to lose weight
healthily. When the counselor is evaluating the person they will consider their
family history, what body type the person is and any medical issues they may
have. In some cases these counselors will inform the person that their weight
loss goals are unrealistic for they body type and it is often these unrealistic
goals that set people up for failure when dieting.
At a weight loss spa you will offered fitness classes, cooking and dieting
classes as well as meditative activities. These classes teach people how to
limit their fat and sugar intake when preparing meals at home without making
them bland. The fitness classes offered by these spas vary from one spa to
another but in general they focus on fitness which people will find fun to
participate in. Many more people are likely to pursue a fitness regime on
leaving a spa if they have enjoyed participating in it whilst there. At a weight
loss spa the types of fitness activities they include are golf, hiking, horse
riding, tennis and swimming as well as many others.
Most weight loss spas teach their clients about different and alternative ways
of improving their weight loss chances by taking Vitamins or drinking herbal
teas. These can help guests to improve their digestive system, heal damaged
cells as well as encouraging the body to absorb vitamins but at the same time
removing toxins and bacteria from it.
Generally weight loss spas offer their clients classes in yoga and other similar
kinds of activities as yoga can not only help improve your posture, but will
reduce stress and improve the circulation of blood around the body.
But perhaps the best benefit of a weight loss spa is that there is a relaxing
and enjoyable atmosphere for those that visit one. As a visit to a weight loss
spa is a holiday more people are likely to repeat the activities they took part
in even when they go home and this will lead to a greater chance of them
achieving diet success.

What About A Weight Loss Health Spa or Weight Loss Retreats?
No two health spas or weight loss resorts or weight loss retreats are the
same. It is difficult to give a single answer that can adequately cover the
question without either discrediting a good weight loss spa in the process, or
giving unwarranted praise to a bad weight loss spa or resort or retreat.
Personally, I love the idea behind a specialist weight loss health spa or
retreat, so long as it is run on an idealistic basis and not a predominantly
commercial basis. Does such a utopian place exist? Not to my knowledge.
My "dream spa", the weight loss retreat that some day I'd like to be involved in
developing, would probably run as a not-for-profit establishment. It would not
offer a "quick fix" but would incorporate a comprehensive weight loss program
covering not just diet and exercise, but fitness and dietary education,
practical experience in food preparation, provide psychological counselling and
other emotional support and an overall habit changing lifestyle reforming
orientation. I'd envisage a residential program lasting at least six months to
produce desirable results and indelibly impress life long change upon the
clientele.
At present, a search of the WWW shows many health spas, some offering weight
loss programs, though with programs only ranging from 7 days to 21 days. To my
thinking, that is the obesity equivalent of a drug & alcohol treatment program
offering detox only with no rehabilitation.
Weight loss health spas and retreats typically charge around $US 2,500 - 3,000
per week.
By all means go and enjoy their peaceful surroundings, therapeutic massages, the
relaxation of having your rooms cleaned and food all prepared for you, enjoy
their bush walks and bike rides - have yourself a pleasant holiday. You may even
lose a little bit of weight temporarily and come away feeling quite refreshed.
Just don't expect to come away from such a weight loss retreat or spa with a
life long answer to your weight and obesity problems. That just can't be done in
a week or even three.
Things that don’t work in weight loss...
1. Diets don’t work. Why? Because by definition, diets are short term fixes
to long-term health problems. The first diet book was written 140 years ago by
William Banting. And each year sees several new diets. Most diets are plain
wrong because they don’t recognize that each person is different in his or her
nutritional needs. At Shapes Weight loss Club, we have no standard diet.
2. Calorie counting is useless if you are eating the wrong foods. If you eat all
your required calories in simple sugars, you will gain fat and will have less
energy. So the math does not really add up. The reason for that is that the
human body has evolved to absorb glucose at a steady rate. All food is glucose
in the end. So if you eat foods that are processed, refined, and too easily
digested, you will raise glucose levels so high so quickly that the body has to
send the unused glucose to store as fat. Also the insulin response system
becomes strained.
3. Your food dislikes reveal a lot about your health. At Shapes, we analyze why
you dislike what you dislike which allows us to build your Shapes Bio-Chemical
Profile. The Shapes Bio-Meridian Food Compatibility test will also reveal
long-term intolerances which may be hidden.
4. Simple diets that depend on cutting calories don’t work if you are suffering
from a severe health condition. These include fibroid tumors, Poly Cystic
Ovarian Syndrome, (PCOS), Glucose Intolerance Factor, or medically diagnosed
hormonal imbalances.
5. Diets that promise you can eat whatever you feel like, and still lose weight.
Advocates of these miracles are lying.
6. Fitness programs that are designed by body-builders and super fit people
don’t work Why do they often fail? Because they don’t understand that an
overweight individual has limited energy, has no history of exercise and is
afraid to go into a place where others seem to be fit. Most fitness centers are
equipped with machines that are designed for body building. They don’t have
people who understand weight loss. Weight loss fitness is very different from
normal fitness. Next time, you go to an instructor, ask how many people lost
weight doing his or her program. Ask them to show proof.
7. If you exercise routine feels like a special and painful activity, then you
are likely to give up. If you don’t have a history of exercise, then you should
choose activities that you enjoy at least a little. Exercise is like food. If
you don’t enjoy it, you won’t do it. Forget what the so-called fitness
professionals say, exercise should not feel like punishment. At Shapes
Weightloss Club, we offer more than 100 classes each week including fun classes
like belly dancing and salsa.
8. The latest to join our list of things that don’t work are fancy machines that
promise a new body. At Shapes Weightloss Club, we have studied the claims and
concluded that the slimming machines are quite useless on their own. Notice how
the promoters ask you to go on a restricted diet.
9. Using food supplements without consultation. You may be harming yourself by
taking supplements without proper consultation. Each one of us is bio-chemically
different. What works for one may not work for the other. Supplementing vitamins
and minerals without a vitamin/mineral analysis may prove harmful. The Shapes
Bio-Chemical profile will identify which vitamins and minerals may actually be
indicated for you.
10. Weight training if you are overweight. Since most fitness gurus don’t have a
clue of what causes weight gain, they think getting obese people to do what
bodybuilders do will work. If you are totally out shape, doing weight will not
do anything to improve your visuals. First lose the weight and then you can tone
up with small weights.
Weight Management Through Spa Therapies
There has been much importance placed upon the fitness quotient of a person
in modern times. With individuals leading sedentary and stressed lives, our
fit-as-a-fiddle forefathers have given way to obese descendants, who could not
care less for their couch potato image. Body weight has been on an exponential
rise inflicting adults and kids alike.
Weight reduction on everybody’s mind
Earlier considered to be the Americans’ forte, obesity has now afflicted a
tremendous number of people – continents and countries no bar. Surveys reveal
shocking figures of people fighting obesity to gain more control on their lives.
But, the icing on the cake is that, people have become aware of their bodies and
plan to take action to have more control on it. This has seen the weights
tilting towards fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Suddenly every Tom, Dick and
Harry is concerned about weight management. Little wonder then, that weight
reduction has gained the top most priority in hoi polloi’s to-do lists
worldwide. Generic populace is frenziedly trying out any method that remotely
promises to speed up weight loss. Myriad diets, astonishing exercise routines
and the like have all become a part of our daily parlance. Moreover, people are
now willing to experiment in order to lose weight and are jumping at any
alternative, even if it is not tried and tested.
Weight management and spas
Spas have been known to people as healing centers where alternative therapies
cure myriad ailments. Taking a holistic approach, spas can cure in a gentle way,
targeting the root cause of the ailment, instead of merely suppressing the
symptoms. Though weight reduction through spa treatments seemed to be far
fetched a few years ago, people have now started realizing their importance off
late. And who can deny a treatment that along with targeting the extra flab,
also equally relaxes and comforts you. With spa therapies converging the best of
therapies from all ancient cultures, there is no dearth of therapies that target
obesity. But here, we will discuss in detail the effect of two therapies on body
weight – body wrap therapy and acupuncture therapy. These are known to have both
a physical and holistic effect on the patient.
Body wrap
We are what we eat. And now-a-days, with the advent of junk foods, we are
unconsciously torturing our systems no end. Excess consumption of alcohol,
caffeine, sugar or salt infests the body with toxins that accumulate over a
period. These are harmful in that they are the root of acne, skin disorders, and
fat depositions under the tissue. A body wrap detoxifies the body of these
deadly toxins, within a few sittings, to accelerate metabolism and lose weight
real fast. The therapy comprises of wrapping the body in bandages that are
soaked in essential oils or solutions.
It starts with the therapist measuring various parts of your body, after which,
the body is tightly wrapped in bandages to squeeze it to the maximum possible
extent. These cloth bandages are soaked in essential oils or solutions. Light
exercises of the bandaged body are then performed, which speeds up the release
of toxins form the body. The therapist encourages you to drink large amounts of
water before, during, and after exercising, since it is believed that water rids
the body of unwanted toxins. After the procedure is over, the therapist will
again measure body parts to check the amount of inches lost during the
procedure. Repeatedly subjecting the body to this therapy will help you lose
weight. Many claim to have lost more than 6 inches within a single session of
body wrap. While many day spas offer this procedure with costs ranging between
$110 and $150, there are also home versions available at a cheaper rate. Also,
most spas offer discounts if you choose a multiple wrap offer. Maximum benefit
can be extracted from a body wrap in one or two sessions per week, though it can
also be performed twice in a single day.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture, a five thousand year old healing therapy developed in China has
lately become the toast of the spa industry, particularly after its benefits in
weight management and weight control were discovered. The west had not even
heard of acupuncture, leave alone acupuncture weight loss, till recently. And
when it did, it looked askance at acupuncture, a procedure wherein the skin of
the patient is punctured using extremely thin needles. The west did not
understand this eastern concept of healing, and was initially also a bit
apprehensive to embrace this treatment. But, now that it has brought home this
concept, there is no looking back, and weight loss through acupuncture is fast
gaining acceptance. The treatment focuses on activating endorphins, the
happiness hormones of the body. These endorphins curtail your desire to overeat,
by getting released in the body. Thus the therapy targets the cravings instead
of directly targeting weight.
The therapy essentially starts with the pressure points, the most important one
situated just behind the ear. Though our body consists of about a thousand
pressure points all to cure various ailments, the weight loss point lies behind
the ears. The therapist first inserts five needles at specific points behind
your ears. Four of these points are directly connected to the lungs, liver,
kidneys and the nervous system, while the fifth one is for relaxation. The
stimulation of specific organs releases endorphins to begin the weight loss
process, which in turn, target the binges that are experienced by a compulsive
eater. The procedure either decreases or completely does away with the craving
for carbohydrates, thus decreasing your appetite. Acupuncture improves the
function of two nuroendocrine pathways that regulate metabolism, to aid weight
reduction. It mainly performs the functions of lowering weight, insulin levels,
body fat, and lipid levels. Hence it is effective not only in losing body fat,
but also keeping it off. |
